The Palali-Achchuveli main road in the Northern Province was reopened today (Nov 01) after being closed for over 30 years, following a directive from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
This road had been shut down during the 30-year civil war and remained closed for an additional 15 years after the war ended.
The reopening comes after repeated appeals from the public, including a recent request from the Northern Province Governor to the President.
President Dissanayake directed security officials to address any safety concerns for reopening the route.
With the coordination of the Defence Ministry and its Secretary, the Palali-Achchuveli main road is now open to the public.
