The number of staff members at the Hambantota District General Hospital who have contracted COVID-19 has risen to four.
Hospital Director S.D.U.M. Ranga said that two nurses and two members of the hospital's minor staff have tested positive for the virus.
A minor employee working at the hospital's pharmacy had first tested positive eight days ago. This was followed by a nurse at the hospital's Ward 18. Tests also revealed that the nursing officer's wife, who worked at office of the Hambantota District Director General of Health Services, had also contracted the virus.
Subsequent PCR tests conducted on the close contacts of those who tested positive came yesterday, where they revealed that a nurse at the hospital's surgical ward was also infected.
