Three persons who had travel bans imposed on them owing to various allegations and a soldier who had escaped the Navy were arrested this morning at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), and were handed over to the Airport Police.
Among the offenders were Sujeeva Prasanna Fernando, a 49-year-old resident of Wennappuwa, Udasirigama who sexually abused a 12 year old girl.
Police investigations revealed that the offender had flown down from Italy for a vacation, and has four daughters and a son.
The offender attempted to flee to Italy via Dubai as the offence was reported to the area police yesterday.
Upon informing the Marawila Magistrate Court, a travel ban was imposed on him.
Furthermore, three individuals who had travel bans imposed on them by the Mannar Silawathura Magistrate's Court, Negombo Special Criminal Investigation Unit and Sri Lanka Navy who attempted to flee the country were arrested by Immigration Officers at BIA and handed over to the Airport Police this morning.
