Mt Lavinia Acting Magistrate Rathna Gamage ordered that the body be handed over to the family members after the post-mortem was held at the Kalubowila hospital. The victim was identified as Nethuja Nirwana Herath of an international school in Nugegoda.
The incident had occurred when some 30 students from the school had gone with their teachers for swimming practice to the pool. An instructor was available to provide the training.
The father of the child claimed that his son who was unable to swim had been sent to the deep end of the pool and the school authorities should take full responsibility for the death.
