Opposition members walked out from the Budget debate of the Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte Municipal Council claiming that the budget was illegal.
This was after the Mayor Shantha Premalal presented the budget for next year.
The opposition claimed that the committee reports relevant to the budget should have been handed over to them seven weeks ahead of the budget, but instead they handed it over on November 30.
Eventually the budget was passed with 23 members supporting the budget. The Opposition was not present when the vote took place.
