A raid coordinated by the Navy and the Police Anti-corruption Division in Puttalam led to the arrest of two suspects with 1156 kg of smuggled Kendu leaves on Tuesday (April 4).
Kendu Leaves are normally used for making Beedi.
The search operation was conducted by the Naval detachment of Udappuwa belonging to the SLNS Thambapanni in the Northwestern Naval Command together with the Police Anti-corruption Division in Nagawilluwa.
The Kendu leaves were found in 44 cardboard packages ready to be sold illegally.
The suspects were aged 25 and 45,residents of the Mullativu and Nallanthanniya.
The suspects were handed over to the Police Anti-Corruption Division for further legal action to be taken.
