The Presidents' Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP's were absent during the voting.
151 MPs voted for the bill while one MPs voted against it.
The lone MP who voted against the bill was SLPP MP Chamara Sampath Dasanayake.
The new law, once certified by the Speaker, will do away with official residences and monthly allowances paid to former presidents or their widows.
The monthly secretarial allowance and official transport and such other facilities provided to a former President or their widow too will be halted.
