Parliament dissolved, Elections on Nov 14

Parliament has been dissolved with effect from midnight yesterday (September 24).and elections will be held on November 14.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake signed the relevant gazette notification to dissolve Parliament and sent it to the Government printer last night, the President's Media Division (PMD) said.

According to the proclamation November 14 has been fixed for the date for the Parliamentary election and the new Parliament will meet on November 21, 2024.

The Gazette notification has specified that the period beginning on October 04 and ending at 12 noon October 11, 2024 as the nomination period.

Earlier in the day on Tuesday the President appointed Dr Harini Amarasuriya as the Prime Minister. He also appointed three cabinet ministers while retaining several portfolios.

The President is due to address the nation today (November 25).
