The staff of Parliament held an event recently to felicitate outgoing Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapakse and Deputy Chairperson of Committees Angajan Ramanathan.
The ceremony was in keeping with the parliamentary tradition of followed at the conclusion of a Parliamentary term.
The event was held under the patronage of the Secretary-General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani
Rohanadeera, along with the Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary-General Chaminda Kularatne
and Assistant Secretary-General Hansa Abeyratne, with the participation of department heads
and staff members of Parliament.
Mr. Abeywardena thanked the Secretary-General and all staff members for their support throughout his tenure.
The Deputy Speaker, and Deputy Chairman of Committees, were unable to attend due to unavoidable circumstances.
The National Democratic Front (NDF) party secretary has unilaterally nominated Ravi Karunanayake for the coalition’s national list parliamentary seat this morning (18), former President Ranil Wickremesinghe said.
