Parliamentary sessions were suspended for 10 minutes by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena following the unruly behavior of opposition members today morning.
SJB MP Ajith Mannapperuma had tried to remove the Mace, but Parliamentary staff managed to protect the Mace.
The opposition members were protesting after Public Security Minister refused to answer a question.
The Speaker initially had given the opportunity to raise the question, but Minister Tiran Alles had said he was tabling the answer. Thereby MP Mannapperuma raised objections as to why his question was not being answered.
Earlier NPP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake had raised the question about the IGP after pointing out that the Constitutional Council had turned down his extension for three weeks but the President had approved it.
