The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is due to record a statement from Pastor Jerome Fernando, who has made a controversial statement regarding Buddhism.
A senior police officer said that several complaints have been received over the statement by the pastor.
President Ranil Wickramasinghe has ordered the Presidential Adviser on National Security and President’s Chief of Staff Sagala Ratnayake to carry out an immediate investigation into this statement.
Meanwhile, in a media briefing, Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini, the media spokesperson for the Catholic Church, denounced the statement made by Pastor Jerome and insisted legal action to be taken against Pastor Jerome.
Other complaints were lodged by the ‘New Buddhist Front’ and the ‘Pivithuru Hela Urumaya' with the CID, seeking legal action to be taken immediately.
