Navy arrests 26 persons for illegal fishing in the East
Twenty six persons were arrested over illegal fishing during a search operation carried out by the Navy in the beach areas of Lankapatuna and Mullaitivu areas on two days this week.
Further seven dinghies and illegal fishing equipment were also seized by the Navy during the operation carried out on June 13 and 14.
Those arrested were found while engaging in illegal night diving activities.
The arrested persons were identified as individuals from Mannar, Kinniya and China Bay areas aged between 24 to 56 years. The seized items were handed over to the Trincomalee Assistant Directorate of Fisheries and Mullaitivu Assistant Directorate of Fisheries for onward legal action.
