A pilot project to convert 200 petrol-powered, four-stroke three-wheelers into electric vehicles has been initiated by the Ministry of Transport and Highways with assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and collaboration with the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) Sri Lanka.
This initiative, which aims to advance sustainable transportation, primarily targets beneficiaries in Colombo.
To make sure that these groups were given priority during the selection process, special consideration was given to female owners, people with impairments, and families who depended solely on a single three-wheeler for their daily needs.
