The Cabinet of Ministers granted approval this week to move the police headquarters complex to a 14-acre land plot belong to the department at Bellantota junction, Pepiliyana road.
The current police HQ located in the heart of Colombo consists of three buildings connecting York street and Chaithya street.
Although the approval had been given at a cabinet meeting held on July 11, 2012, to construct the Police HQ in Mirihana, necessary steps have not been taken accordingly. Therefore, another 14-acre land plot in Pepiliyana was identified as the most suitable location for the construction of HQ.
