A total of 905 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of liquor during a special 18-hour operation from 12 noon on April 18 to 6am yesterday (19), Police Spokesman Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Ajith Rohana stated.
In addition, police also filed 6898 other cases linked on motor vehicle offences during the same period, DIG Rohana added.
A majority of vehicle offences have been committed by motorbike riders and trishaw drivers, the police spokesman said, adding that analysis of road accidents in the country showed that these two segments were responsible for about 75% of road accidents in the country.
