A team from the Nuwara Eliya Crime Investigation Division conducted a raid yesterday in the Lower Biyanwala area in the Kadawatha Police Division based on a tip-off and arrested a suspect in possession with a stock of narcotics. They also arrested a female suspect on charges of aiding and abetting narcotics trafficking.
The drugs seized during the raid are as follows: Heroin - 12.9kg, Ice - 1.4kg, Kush - 2.3kg, Hashish - 2.4kg. Police also seized an electric scale.
The male suspect is 29 years of age while the female suspect is aged 32 years. Both are residents of Angulana.
Police Media Division said information has come to light that the suspects had been living temporarily in the Lower Biyanwala area in Kadawatha and have been operating this racket from there. Further investigations are being conducted by the Nuwara Eliya Crime Investigation Division and the Kadawatha Police.
