A Police dog named “Shaggy” was capable of supporting the Police to arrest a suspect of a murder in Divulapelessa in the Badulla District, Police said today.
On Sunday, a wife of a cow herder had reported to the Police of her husband not returning home, prompting the Divulapelessa Police to launch an investigation. They found the dead body in the Dikpitiya forest on the morning of Monday.
The 44 year old cow herder and resident of Aluyatagala, Heberawa, was confirmed to have been beaten to death by a rock and a club, which was discovered near the dead body.
A Police dog named “Shaggy”, working under Police Constable Seneviratne had traced the scent of the murderer from the club from the scene, across a few houses to a well of the murderer’s house, where a few washed clothes were discovered.
Subsequently, the Police arrested the 46 year old brother of the victim as the suspect. Investigations have revealed that the victim and the suspect had a long-standing dispute regarding a farm land.
The Divulpelessa Police are conducting further investigations.
