Police intervened to rescue a group of school students from a school bus during protests launched by the Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF) this afternoon (8).
The driver of the school bus seemed to be missing in action while the police acted accordingly to escort the students away from the raging protests after the bus was trapped in the area of the protest near the University of Colombo.
A large number of police officers were deployed to parts of Colombo after a court order was issued banning the protest from taking place.
Sri Lanka Police fired tear gas and high-pressure water cannons to disperse student activists who were protesting on Reid Avenue near the University of Colombo (UOC).
Tensed situations were reported alongside Reid Avenue after some of the student activists were injured.
