Several consignments of drugs worth over 13 million rupees received via airmail and detained at the Central Mail Exchange were today (4) handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
The parcels were received from Germany and England.
The officers said that 11 unclaimed parcels were sent to fake addresses in Colombo, Nugegoda, Anuradhapura and Kandy.
The parcels were inspected after it was revealed in investigations that the addresses were fake.
Accordingly, 1,055 ‘Ecstasy’ pills containing Methamphetamine drug, 318g of ‘Kush’ cannabis, and 15 cannabis seeds have been seized.
The stock of drugs was handed over to the Police Narcotics Division for further investigations.
Last year, Sri Lanka Customs’ Narcotics Control Division officers made 81 drug seizures, confiscating 119kg of drugs including cocaine, heroin, ecstasy pills, hashish, and kush cannabis with an approximate street value of 2.5 billion rupees, resulting in the Customs Narcotics Control Division’s largest-ever drug seizure.

The Government today tabled in the House the Report of the Commission to Inquiry into the Establishment and Maintenance of Unlawful Places of Detention and Torture Chambers in the Batalanda Housing Scheme.
