Police have commenced an investigation concerning a fake audio recording that is being circulated claiming to be the voice of Hong Kong based Sri Lankan Virologist Prof. Malik Peiris.
Police Spokesman Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) of Police Ajith Rohana said the clip where the speaker claims to be Prof. Peiris, is currently circulating on social media.
The message concerns the COVID situation in the country and quotes Prof Peiris recommending medication for COVID19.
Prof. Malik Peiris has requested for an investigation to be conducted on the fake clip and accordingly, police have commenced a probe to identify those responsible for making the clip. Police Spokesman said legal action will be taken against these individuals.
