Police have released updated information regarding the victims of today's ferry tragedy in Kinniya.
According to Police Spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nihal Thalduwa said six persons had died and 20 others were injured in the incident.
The deceased included a 71-year-old male as well as three members of the same family comprising a 30-year-old mother, her six-year-old son and 3 1/2 year old daugther. A brother and sister from another family were also among the dead.
Nineteen of the injured were being treated at the Kinniya Base Hospital. They include five girls and six boys. Four adult males and four adult females are also being treated at the hospital.
Meanwhile, a six-year-old girl who was seriously injured in the accident is undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Trincomalee General Hospital.
