Police have so far arrested 45 persons in connection with violent incidents that took place during the protest near President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's residence in Mirihana last night, police said.
The arrested are 44 males and one female. Meanwhile, five police officers including an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) were injured during last night's clashes and are currently being treated in hospital, police added.
One police bus, a police jeep and two motorbikes had been set alight during the violence while one water cannon truck has also been damaged, Police Media Unit further said.
