Police have used water cannons to disperse a protest march by the Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF) in Kirulapone today (August 10).
Two court orders were issued earlier today by the Colombo Fort and Maligakanda Magistrate’s Courts averting IUSF convener Madushan Chandrajith and eight others from marching into Deans Road, Kularatna Mawatha, T.B. Jayah Mawatha, Technical Junction in a manner obstructing the public and traffic.
Orders were also issued not enter the Presidential Secretariat, President’s House, the Prime Minister’s Office, Galle Face Green and few other locations in Colombo.
The IUSF protest has been staged over a few demands, inclusive of taking a stand against authorizing three private universities to offer medical degrees, and issues connected to Labour Law, Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) schemes.
