President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in a letter to party leaders agreed to form an all-party government in principle.
President Rajapaksa has requested all parties to join in forming an all-party government. Arrangements are being made to hold a special meeting this Friday at the President's House where the draft plan of the new government will be discussed.
The all-party government will be formed following the resignation of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
President Rajapaksa said this move will be taken in order to work on a solution to the present social and economic crisis and following requests made by the Chief Prelates of the Three Nikaya’s, Cardinal Malcom Ranjith and religious leaders as well as political and civil organizations.
