President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has promised villages in Meemure to help develop the tourism industry in the area.
Helping to identify new locations to visit and developing mountain climbing are among the measures to be taken to improve the tourism industry, the President explained to the villagers.
He made the remarks while visiting the remote village of Meemure as part of his ‘Gama Samaga Pilisandara’ (Dialogue with the Village) programme. The President visited several locations in Meemure in the Ududumbara Divisional Secretariat Division as part of his visit and met with area residents.
He said water sport activities too will be developed in the area to promote tourism.
The President also visited the Kaikawala Junior School and met with students, teachers and parents at the school. He inaugurated the ‘Smart Classroom’ donated to students at the school, and also handed over laptops, a television and high speed internet access facilities to the principal of Meemure Primary School.
The President also ceremonially launched a new bus put into service by the Sri Lanka Transport Board on the Meemure-Ududumbara Road and took part in its inaugural journey.
