Chief Government Whip Minister Johnston Fernando informed the Parliament today that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will not resign under any circumstances.
The statement came from the Chief Whip after the Opposition pointed out that masses are in the streets for days with the demand that the government including President Rajapaksa should step down from office immediately.
Opposition MPs also stressed that the government no longer claimed to have the Presidential mandate to occupy the office since the people who elected President Rajapaksa are protesting on the streets chanting slogans like ‘Gota Go Home’, ‘Rajapaksa go home’ etc alleging corruption and mismanagement of the economy.
House proceedings were suspended twice due to a ‘Gota Go Home’ protest organized by the Opposition in the House.
