The Presidential Secretariat has directed the General Manager of Railways (GMR) to take immediate measures to refurbish the toilets at the Colombo Fort Railway Station.
The instructions come after numerous complaints by commuters over the poor condition of the toilets at the country's main railway station. The lack of good toilet facilities has caused severe inconvenience not just to local commuters, but to thousands of foreign tourists who also use the Fort Railway Station.
Accordingly, President's Secretary Saman Ekanayake has directed the GMR to take immediate measures to refurbish the toilets in order to create a safe space for commuters, especially for female commuters and children, where they can fulfil their basic sanitary requirements.
