The Cabinet of Ministers has given the stamp of approval to the proposal to bring down the maximum retail price of 60 medicines by 16 percent with effect from June 15, 2023 and to assess the price of medicines each trimester.
In view of the devaluation of the Sri Lankan Rupee in comparison to the US dollar, the Ministry of Health gave the go-ahead to heighten the maximum retail price of medicines up to 97 percent previously intermittently.
During the Cabinet press conference that took place today (June 06) Minister of Health Dr. Keheliya Rambukwella mentioned that owing to the recent substantial regard of the Sri Lankan rupee facing the US dollar, the proposal submitted by him as the Minister of Health was acknowledged by the Cabinet and formulation of the relevant gazette notification is currently in progress.
