Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya is to brief Colombo-based Heads of Mission on the Government’s ongoing emergency flood-relief operations and recovery efforts today.
All Heads of Mission and Posts of Sri Lanka’s Diplomatic Missions abroad are join the meeting virtually.
The briefing focuses on ensuring the safety and security of the affected communities and outlined the immediate and aftermath recovery measures, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Most diplomatic missions based in Colombo have expressed their solidarity and support for the Government of Sri Lanka during this challenging time. Missions have conveyed their readiness to work closely with Sri Lankan authorities in facilitating humanitarian assistance and contributing to ongoing relief and recovery initiatives, the Ministry said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as instructed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, has established an Emergency Response Unit for overall coordination effectively with Sri Lanka’s diplomatic missions abroad and Colombo-based diplomatic missions, the Ministry said.
