The Department of Prisons has made preparations to allow visitors to see inmates during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year on April 12 and 13.
Accordingly, all prison institutions have been arranged to accept food, sweets and hygiene items brought by inmates' relatives for them from their homes while adhering to existing rules and health protocols. The items will must be provided in quantities sufficient for one person only, the Department added.
Meanwhile, the Prisons Department has also made arrangements for relatives of Muslim inmates to visit them on April 11 to coincide with the Ramadan festival. The same health and safety protocols will be applicable for these inmates as well.
