The Prisons Department has opened an inquiry over allegations levelled by the daughter of an inmate in the open prison camp that a jail guard sought sexual favours from her and money to visit her father who had been killed mysteriously later.
Amidst contradictory versions from the prisons and the daughter about the death three prison officials have been interdicted pending the inquiry over the incident which took place at the Kadurugasara open prison camp.
The inmate from Matara was serving a four year rigorous imprisonment term after being found guilty early last year for the robbery of Rs. 10,000.
Prison officials later claimed that he had died of the injuries suffered after being beaten by villages while trying to escape, but the daughter claims that her father was beaten after she refuse to accede to the demands of the jail guard.
The daughter had made a statement to the Prison officials on Sunday and soon after the statement was recorded a Jailor, a Sargent and Guard were interdicted.
The daughter of the inmate produced text messages sent by the prison official including his account number to transfer money.
