President Ranil Wickremesinghe has appointed Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne as the Chancellor of the University of Visual and Performing Arts with immediate effect, the President's Media Division (PMD) announced.
Prof. Ariyaratne has been appointed to the post for a period of five years in compliance with Section 32 of the University Act No. 16 of 1978, Amended by Act No. 07 of 1985.
President's Secretary Saman Ekanayake has forwarded the letter of appointment to Prof. Ariyaratne, confirming his appointment as the Chancellor of the University of Visual and Performing Arts, the PMD further said.
Prof. Ariyaratne succeeds the late Prof. Sangeeth Nipun Sanath Nandasiri, who passed away last week.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
