The Professionals Trade Union Alliance has sent a final reminder to President Ranil Wickremesighe regarding their demands and warned that they would resort to fresh union actions, failure to resolve the issues.
The President of the Federation of University Teachers Association, Prof Shyama Banneheka told Timesonline that the letter was about the scheduled discussion with the President as a followup to the meeting held with the President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake.
At the meeting with the president secretary the Professionals Trade union alliance conveyed that they are unable to wait for three to six months to obtain relief from the current tax policy and suggested that they need to be provided an interim solution.
Prof Banneheka said that the President Secretary promised them of another meeting with the president following IMF discussions. However the meeting which was to be scheduled on March 21 or 22 did not take place, therefore they warned that they would call for another union action April 03, 2023 onwards if their demands are met
Therefore the professional’s trade union which held a meeting decided to send a letter to the President reminding of the scheduled meeting along with the warning that they would call for another island wide strike if a positive response is not given.
Professional’s Trade union alliance condemned the move of sending Ceylon Petroleum Corporation union leaders on compulsory leave and making the petroleum terminals out of bounds for them.
He said that they would also express their concerns over the privatization of Ceylon Petroleum.
The spokesperson for the Government Medical Officers Association GMOA, Dr Chamil Wijesinghe said that the professional Trade Union Alliance have scheduled a meeting tomorrow to discuss with the non-professional trade unions in order to get their support for their cause.
