The proposal submitted to appoint a commission to inquire into the May 9 violence has not received approval yet, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister of Transport and Highways and Media, Bandula Gunawardena said.
Addressing the weekly Cabinet briefing today (May 9, 2023) he said the proposal had been submitted by Prasanna Ranatunga, the Minister of Urban Housing and Development calling to appoint a commission with full Presidential powers to inquire into May 9 violence.
“No compensation has been paid for the damages caused yet”, Mr. Gunawardena added, criticising the Sri Lankan administrative system standards.
