Tamil political parties, civil organisations and religious group representatives continued their protest march from the East to the north for the second consecutive day today.
The protestors started off from Batticaloa and were heading to Mullaitivu.
They are continuing their protest on a series of demands including on what they call oppression against Tamils, calling release of ‘political prisoners’ and in support of the UN call to probe alleged war crimes.
In contrary to attempts by the Police to stop the demonstration on the first day no attempts were made to stop them.
Several members of Parliament are among those involved in the protest which is expected to be concluded in Polikandy, Point Pedro on Saturday.
MPs S.Gajendran and S. Shridharan from the Jaffna district also took part in the protest.
On Wednesday Police had obtained a court order to prevent conducting the protest, but the protestors ignored the order.
Meanwhile in Jaffna parents of persons who have declared as ‘missing’ during the conflict held a demonstration in the Bus stand.
Police attempted disperse the crowd claiming they had obtained a court order, but protestors demanded the police to disclose the name of the person whom the order had been taken against. However the person mentioned in the order was not present and the demonstration continued.
