The Disaster Management Center has called for people to be on alert as water levels in Rivers and tanks could increase as a result of showers and thunder showers.
The water levels at the major rivers such as Kalu, Nilwala, Ginganaga rivers, and Attanagalu Oya are on the rise. Therefore people residing in Ratnapura, Magura, Tawalama, Baddegama,
Thalgahagoda, Pitabeddara, and Urawa are requested to stay on alert due to rising water levels.
Meanwhile, Minor flood situations are reported in Kalawellawa, Panadugama and Dunamale areas.
According to the Meteorology Department showers and thundershowers are expected in Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
The Department requested the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thunder showers.
They stressed that moderately heavy showers above 75 mm may occur at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts and warned that strong winds about 40 kmph can be expected at times on the western slope of the central hills, Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces and in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
