The Government was today forced to restrict the public services for the next two by imposing limitations on calling employees for work. The Ministry of Public Administration issued a detailed circular on the restrictions.
Accordingly, the public sector employees will not be called for work for the next two weeks, but arrangements will be in place to maintain essential services with the Ministries and Department heads drawing their own contingency plans.
They will be able to work out a roster to call for a limited number of employees.
The leave for workers will not be deducted from employees who do not turn up at work during the two weeks. According to the circular employees will be required to be ready to work online though they do not report to work.
The heads of departments are expected to make transport arrangements for the limited employees who turn up at work.
A former Senior Administrative service official said that this was the first time where they have restricted the public sector due to a fuel crisis, though previously there have been interruptions due to political or security issues.
