Ranjan Ramanayake has filed a Writ Application with the Court of Appeal on Tuesday (2) seeking an interim order preventing the attempt to make his parliamentary seat vacant.
The Attorney General and the Secretary-General of Parliament were named as respondents in the application.
Mr Ramanayake was sentenced last month by a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices Sisira de Abrew, Vijith Malalgoda, and Preethi Padman Surasena.
After undergoing a quarantine period at the open prisons in Pallansena, Negombo he was transferred to the Angunukolapelessa prisons.
Meanwhile a protest calling for the release of Mr Ramanayake was held in Colombo recently.
