Former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake and seven others were remanded till March 23 today by the High Court Trial-at-Bar over the 2016 Central Bank bond scam.
The indictments were filed by the Attorney General earlier in the day.
The case was taken up before a three-judge bench comprising High Court Judges Damith Thotawatte, Manjula Thilakaratne and Mohammed Irshedeen.
Lawyers who appeared for the accused requested that their clients be released on bail. However, Senior Deputy Solicitor General Haripriya Jayasundara, appearing for the Attorney General, strongly objected to granting bail to the suspects.
After taking the matter into consideration, the court ordered that the suspects be remanded in custody till March 23.
