Sri Lanka yesterday (2) hit another daily record of COVID-19 cases, with 1891 patients being detected.
A total of 1843 patients were detected locally while the other 48 were locals who returned from overseas.
Colombo district recorded the highest number of patients reported yesterday, with 387 being detected. Kalutara district recorded 330 cases while 297 were reported from the Gampaha district.
This was the sixth straight day that daily COVID-19 cases exceeded 1000.
The latest tally took the country's confirmed COVID-19 cases to 111, 722. A total of 97, 242 of these have recovered. A total of 13, 784 patients were being treated at hospitals and intermediate care centres.
The number of confirmed COVID deaths also neared the 700 mark by last night with a further nine reported deaths. This takes the overall COVID death tally to 696.
