President Gotabaya Rajapaksa requested people to reject subversive attempts to push them toward racial and religious disharmony.
“This is the time for all Sri Lankans to join hands as one, to overcome the economic, social, and political challenges. Promoting moderation, toleration, and coexistence is vital,” the President tweeted.
A tense situation arose on Tuesday when outside groups attempted to create communal violence in Negombo. The situation was brought under control following the involvement of religious leaders, the youth in the area and after the deployment of military personnel.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
