Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting of a 25-year-old woman in Bangama last night.
The victim sustained serious gunshot injuries and was admitted to the Matara Hospital for treatment. She is a resident of Dediyagala, Maliduwa,
Police investigations revealed that the shooting was carried out by the husband of the victim's sister due to a personal dispute, Police Media Unit said. Accordingly, he was arrested in Lenama, Akuressa in the early hours of this morning (29) by officers from the Akuressa Police. The locally manufactured firearm used in the shooting was also recovered from the suspect's possession.
The 38-year-old suspect is a resident of Lenama, Akuressa. He is due to be produced before the Matara Magistrate's Court today. Bangama Police are conducting further investigations.
