Religious leaders yesterday called on the Government to postpone the vote on the Colombo Port City Economic Commision Bill.
Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thera and Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith urged the Government to postpone the vote.
Ven. Gunawansa Thera questioned whether the 25 amendments to the Bill proposed by the Supreme Court would all be included in the final Bill, while stressing that dual citizens should not be appointed to the Commission.
Cardinal Ranjith queried why there was such an urgency to pass this Bill in the middle of a pandemic. He also warned that there was a danger of Sri Lanka becoming a Chinese colony due to the Bill.
