The resumption of train services on the northern line has been further delayed after revelations that the renovations between Thalawa and Anuradhapura were incomplete.
The train services were due to resume on Monday (Oct 21) after nearly one year of redevelopment of the track.
After several trial runs and complaints from railway employees it was revealed that the track is not ready to be open.
Chandana Viyanduwa, President of the Engine Drivers Association said that they were not satisfied with the signal systems and the protection at railway crossings.
Sumedha Somaratna, President of the Station Masters Association said that an immediate investigation should be carried out about the project.
The project cost nearly Rs 300 million and was reportedly completed and handed over to the former Minister of Transport Bandula Gunawardena on September 12.
