Mohamed Shiabdeen Ismat, brother-in-law of former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen was granted bail by Colombo Magistrate’s Court today for allegedly raping a maid who worked at the Bathiudeen residence in 2016.
The case was taken up for hearing today. Chief Magistrate Buddhika C. Ragala ordered the suspect to be released on a personal bail worth Rs. 500,000.
The Court warned the suspect to refrain from intimidating witnesses and ordered to surrender his passport to the Court.
The suspect was taken into custody following a statement given by a domestic aide who worked at the residence of the former Minister saying that she was raped by the suspect in 2016.
