In order to control the increasing stray dog population in Matale, a sterilisation programme has commenced covering the whole Matale Municipal Council limits.
Matale Municipal Commissioner Yuresh Nishantha Maduwage said this programme was initiated following a large number of complaints from the public.
“Hospital admission from dog bites is high in Matale and the rabies threat is very much present here,” he said.
The Commissioner requested the public to not dump unwanted puppies along the pavement and streets.
