The government has announced a Rs. 6,000 allowance to support parents struggling to afford school stationery and equipment for their children.
This initiative targets children of “Aswesuma” beneficiaries, those with disabled parents, orphans, and others in special circumstances. Chief Government Whip, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, confirmed that the program will begin in the upcoming school term.
The proposal, presented by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, received Cabinet approval yesterday.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
