Twenty four kilograms Kerala Cannabis with an estimated street value of Rs seven million was detected and two suspects arrested , during a search operation carried out in Nachchikuda, Mannar by the Navy and the Police today (November 22), the Navy said.
The coordinated search operation was mounted by SLNS Buwaneka in the North Central Naval Command with the assistance of Illuppukadawai Police in Nachchikuda area today morning (22nd November).
The search led to interception of a suspicious lorry at the Wellankulam roadblock and recovery of 12 packages containing about 24kg and 200g of Kerala Cannabis from the lorry. Accordingly, the lorry, the consignment of Kerala Cannabis and 02 suspects in connection to the incident were held.
The gross street value of the stock of Kerala Cannabis held in this operation is believed to be over Rs. 07million.
The contraband is believed to have been smuggled from India.
The suspects were identified as residents of Vavuniya, aged 37 and 45. The accused together with Kerala cannabis and the lorry were handed over to the Illuppukadawai Police for onward legal action.
