The Supreme Court today dismissed the petition challenging the President’s eligibility to contest the elections and ordered to pay Rs. 50,000 in costs.
The petitioners had claimed that the President was disqualified from contesting the presidential election due to the non-appointment of the Acting IGP and judges to the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal.
However, Additional Solicitor General Nerin Pulle, representing the Attorney General, objected, stating that the petitioners had misrepresentedv facts to the court and that the application violated Article 92 of the Constitution.
