SJB first anniversary today

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) have prepared to celebrate their first anniversary, today (15), adhering to the COVID-19 safety protocols.

The organiser of the event, MP Harin Fernando said that they have taken the theme ‘Abiyoga Jayagamu, Ekata Sitagamu’( Face challenges by standing together) for the main event to be held at Hyde Park Corner at 2.30 pm.

He explained that as a party it has faced many challenges since breaking away from the United National Party (UNP), and therefore chose the theme to honour the celebration of the maiden anniversary.

Mr Fernando explained that the meeting would be held under the patronage of the party leader Sajith Premadasa. He said even though they have planned a colorful event, they would keep the main event to within two and a half hours.

He said that women’s groups, party trade unions, youth groups and selected party members representing all districts, working committee members and party leaders will participate.

Mr Fernando said that they are expecting a crowd of 2000 persons to take part in today’s event.

“We are introducing a new open concept through our theme ‘Abiyoga Jayagamu, Ekata Sitagamu’ where the party would stand together in support of any person regardless of party, religion or group to allow his or her voice to be herd.”

Meanwhile, the SJB hosted many meetings within the week to discuss about the preparation of the event but held a special meeting on Friday (12) to discuss on how to face challenges posed on members of the party.

A spokesman for the party said that the party members have chosen the theme as recently, one of them were called to Criminal Investigation Department on a comment made.
